No no work done by a person pressing a sponge ball because ball doesnt change its position

work can be defined as a force causing movement or displacement of an object.
In this case i think the person pressing the sponge ball is doing work. This is because he exerts a force on the sponge ball which make it shrink before it assumes its original shape after he releases it. The shrinking will take place on the point of exertion.
