Solution :-

If one term of a proportion is not known, we can use cross multiplication to find the value of that term.

Let us have an example.

Example :

In a factory, a machine produces 180 screws in 6 hours. What will be the production of screws by that machine in 9 hours ?

Solution for this -
180 screws produced = 6 hours
x number of screws produced = 9 hours

Steps

1) Cross multiply : 180 screws × 9 hours = 1620
2) Divide : 1620 ÷ 6 = 270 screws
So, x = 270 screws

The machine will produce 270 screws in 9 hours.

I hope you this example will help you a lot.

Thanks.
