Hi ,

convert the given word problem into algebraic

equation.

Let the number = x

one - third of the number = 1/ 3 × x = x / 3

according to the problem ,

one-third of the number added to itself gives

10

x / 3 + x = 10

( x + 3x)/ 3 = 10

4x / 3 = 10

x = ( 10/ 1 ) × ( 3/ 4 )

after cancellation

x = ( 5 × 3 )/ 2

x = 15/2

x = 7.5

Therefore,

required number = x = 7.5

i hope this will useful to you.

Answer:

Let the number be x

Therefore according to the question,

x* 1/3 + x=10

=> x/3 + x= 10

=> x/3 + 3*x/3=10

=> (x+3x)/3=10

Multiply both sides by 3

3(4x)/3=10*3

=>4x=30

Divide both sides by 4

4x/4=30/4

=>x=7.5

Verification:-

According to question,

x* 1/3 + x=10

=>7.5/3 + 7.5 =10

Solving LHS

2.5+7.5

=10

Since,LHS = RHS

Hence proved

x=7.5
