Let one root p = 2/3 and second root

is q ,

Compare 6x² - x - k= 0 with

ax² + bx + c = 0 ,

a = 6 , b = -1 , c = - k

Product of the roots = c/a

pq = c/a

( 2/3 ) q = -k/6

q = ( -k /6 ) ( 3/2 )

q = -k / 4 ----( 1 )

Sum of the roots = -b/a

2/3 + q = - ( -1 ) /6

2/3 - k/4 = 1/6

-k/4 = 1/6 - 2/3

-k/4 = ( 1 - 4 )/6

-k/4 = -3/6

-k/4 = -1/2

k = 4/2

k = 2

put k = 2 in equation ( 1 ) ,

we get

q = - 2/4

q = - 1/2
