Given that, in a round trip you travel 6 km and then come back home.

We have to find the Displacement and Distance travelled by the body.

Let us assume that the body or person starts moving from his house and after completing a round of 6 km returns back home.

So, here the total distance covered by the body is 6 km.

Now,

Displacement is defined as the shortest path covered between the initial and final points. Since the starting or initial point is home and final point is also home. Therefore, the displacement of the body is zero. As it's initial and final positions are same.

Answer:

a) Zero and b) 6 km

1) Displacement of body is 0 km.

2) Distance travelled by body is 6 km.

Explanation :

✪ Figure :-

6 km

A --------------------- B

6 km

[Note : This is a round trip ]

Here body travels one trip of 6 km & then comes back to home in a round way, that means body travels the same distance once and it's a round trip.

So here distance in one trip will be 3 km.

⇒ Total distance = 3 + 3

Total distance = 6 km.

Total distance travelled = 6 km (2)

2) Here as the body goes from A to B the comes back to B from A.

As we know, displacement is the shortest distance covered by body, that means if the body goes to a point & comes back to same point, so displacement remains 0.

Here also body covers A to B then comes back to A.

⇒ Total displacement = AB - BA

⇒ Total displacement = 6 - 6

Total displacement = 0

Total displacement of body = 0 (1)
