So ‘Which is better, DOS or Windows?’ Well, if you are enquiring about the operating systems, then MS-DOS has not been updated since version 7.0, although others have written versions for very specific purposes (such as tills), so if you are running legacy programmes that were written for DOS on legacy machines, then perhaps DOS is right for you. For the vast majority of users, MS Windows beats DOS hands down, since DOS cannot address as much RAM, cannot run on 32bit or 64bit CPU architecture (except as a Windows cmd prompt, of course, or under a VM emulation) and cannot do a fraction of what Windows can manage - to say nothing of supporting most drivers (something that Linux OSes also struggle with).
I was very happy with MS-DOS 6.1, but when Win3.11 WfW came along, I appreciated the improvement - primarliy the GUI, although Windows crashes were a nuisance. But each incarnation of Windows has something different to offer, and the stability of recent versions is a blessing. DOS, on the other hand, is essentially an interesting fossil for the digital archaeologist.
hope it helps..old don't delete it.
