Explanation:

Osmosis is the movement of WATER molecules from its region of higher concentration to its region of lower concentration through a semi-permeable membrane.

In an hypotonic solution, the solute concentration of the solution is lesser than the solute concentration of the substance, and the solvent (water) concentration is greater than the solvent (water) concentration of the substance. So, to make an equillibrium, the solvent (water) passes through the semi permeable membrane and into the substance till it attains stability.
