length of median through the vertex p is ps = 5 unit

If p(-1,3), q(1,-1) and r (5,1) are the vertices of a triangle pqr, we have to find the length of the median through the vertex p.

first find midpoint of qr,

i.e., midpoint of qr = s = [(1 + 5)/2 , (-1 +1)/2] = (3, 0)

now ps is the median through the vertex P.

using distance formula,

length of median, ps = √{(-1-3)² + (3 - 0)²}

= √{(-4)² + (3)²}

= √(16 + 9)

= 5 unit.
