Step-by-step explanation:

a1 = p - 1

a2 = p + 1

a3 = 3p - 1

Common difference is same everywhere , so ,

a2 - a1 = a3 - a2

2( a2 ) = a3 + a1

∴ a2 = (a3 + a1) / 2

p + 1 = (p - 1 + 3p - 1) / 2

p + 1 = (4p - 2) / 2 = 2p - 1

p + 1 = 2p - 1

1 + 1 = p

∴ p = 2
