$p + \frac{1}{p} = 5 \\ \\ \\ {p}^{2} + \frac{1}{ {p}^{2} } = {(p + \frac{1}{p}) }^{2} - 2 \\ = {5}^{2} - 2 \\ = 25 - 3 \\ = 22$
