p² + q² = 25

pq = 12

p² + q² = (p - q)² + 2pq

25=(p-q)² + 2 x 12

1 = (p - q)²

also

p²+q² = (p+q)² - 2pq

25=(p+q)² - 2x12

25+ 24 = (p+q)²

(p + q)² = 49

2(p+q)² + 3(p-q)²

= 2 x 49 + 3x1

= 98 + 3

= 101
