p - q = 1 \\ squaring \: both \: side \:  \\  {(p - q)}^{2}  =  {1}^{2}  \\  {(p + q)}^{2}  - 4pq = 1 \\ ( \frac{ - 5}{1} )^{2}  -  \frac{k}{1}  = 1 \\ 25 - k = 1 \\ 25 - 1 = k \\ k = 24
