Given,

p (E) = 0.55

To find,

p (not E) = ?

Since, we know that

p (E) + p (not E) = 1

So,

0.55 + p (not E) = 1

⇒ p (not E) = 1 - 0.55

⇒ p (not E) = 0.45

The probability of not E is 0.45.

We are aware that the probability of all the  events in an experiment is equal to 1.

If there are two events, such as E & not E occur in an experiment,

     P (E) + P (not E) = 1

⇒               P(not E) = 1 − P (E)

Given that,

        P(E) = 0.55

∴ P(not E) = 1− 0.55

                 = 0.45
