If p+q=12 and pq=22, thenfind p2 + q2

p2+q2=(p+q) 2-2pq
=(12) 2 - 2(22)
=144-44
=100

PQ=22
P+Q=12
(p+Q)^2=12^2=144
so using identitiy

a ^2+b^2+2ab=(a+b)^2
=p^2+q^2+2pq
=p^2+q^2+44=144
p^2+q^=144-44=100
=p^2+q^2=100
