Question -:

p - q = 5 \: and \: p + q = 13

then

 {p}^{2}  +  {q}^{2}

firstly let us konw the formula of

 {p}^{2}  +  {q}^{2}

 {p}^{2}  +  {q}^{2}  = (p + q)(p - q)

now put the value of p + q and p-q in above formula

 {p}^{2}  +  {q}^{2}  = (p + q)(p - q)

 {p}^{2}  +  {q}^{2}  = (5) \: (13)

 {p}^{2}  +  {q}^{2}  = 65

Answer = 65
