here is your answer: -

zeros of the polynomial are -

p and q

given polynomial =f(x) =x^2-2x-8

( P + q) =2

(pq)=-8

(P +q)^2 = p2 + q^2+ 2pq

p^2 + q^2 = (P +q) ^2 - 2pq

= 4 - 2× -8

= 4 + 16

= 20
