Step-by-step explanation:

r(x^2) means to evaluate r(x) substituting x^2 for x:

r(x2) = (x2)2 - 5x2

Similarly: p(x+1) = 2(x+1)2 - 3(x+1) + 1

so r(x2) - p(x+1) = (x2)2 - 5x2 - (2(x+1)2 - 3(x+1) + 1)

= x4 - 5x2 - ((2x2 + 2x + 1) - 3x - 3 + 1)

= x4 - 5x2 - 2x2 - 2x - 1 + 3x + 3 - 1

= x4 - 7x2 + x

= x ( x3 - 7x + 1)
