if petrol, diesel etc., catches fire one should never try to extinguish it using water. Why​?

as water is heavier than petrol it slips down permitting the petrol to raise the surface area and continuous to burn.

besides the temperature is so high that the water poured on fire starts to evoporate even before it

can extinguish the fire.

thus petrol fire cannot be extinguish by water.
