if pitcher plant can make its own food why do it eats insects???

It's an autotrophic organisam it makes it own food but we know one thing that for making one own food someone needs the basic necessities. Therefore Pitcher plant found in areas where the soil is deficient in nitrogen. So to overcome the nitrogen deficiency they trap insects because insects act as nitrogen source for the plants. To produce food they rely on the process of photosynthesis like other plants.
