if Prasant is 16 years old and the HCF of Prasant's age and his younger sister's age is 8, how old is his sister
Answers
Answer:
- This implies that John's sister is 3 years younger to him.. Therefore, when John is 70 years old, his sister's age will be = 70–3 =67 years.
Obvious answer is 67 because it seems the sister is 3 years younger then her brother.
This question bothers me though because of the rounding. If you don’t consider the month then it could easily be plus or minus a year. They would have to have been born on the same day of the year for this to work out correctly. If one was born in the summer and the other in winter it would affect the answer and would also matter what time of year it was when you took your first sample age and then your second when he was 70.
If the question had used an odd number instead of 6 like 7. Would you have said the sister was 3 and half years old? Suddenly you would have had to consider the month.
Given the inaccuracies of the times given in the question and that people usually give their age without the fractional part of the year. The sisters given age can range from 65 to 69.
The brother could have been 1 day before his 71st birthday for example and still consider himself to be 70.
