SOLUTION

GIVEN

R is a relation 'is greater than' from A to B, where

A= {1, 2, 3, 4, 5} and B = {1,2,6}.

TO DETERMINE

(i) R in the roster form.

(ii) Domain of R

(iii) Range of R.

EVALUATION

Here it is given that

R is a relation 'is greater than' from A to B, where

A= {1, 2, 3, 4, 5} and B = {1,2,6}.

Now

2 > 1

3 > 1

3 > 2

4 > 1

4 > 2

5 > 1

5 > 2

Hence the required relation R in roster form is

R = {(2,1) ,(3,1), (3,2) ,(4,1) ,(4,2) ,(5,1) ,(5,2) }

(ii) Domain of R

= { 2, 3, 4, 5}

(iii) Range of R

= {1,2}
