if α and β are the roots of x²+3x-4,
sum of roots = α+β = -b/a = -3
product of roots = αβ = c/a = -4

 \frac{1}{ \alpha } + \frac{1}{ \beta } = \frac{ \beta + \alpha }{ \alpha  \beta } = \frac{-3}{-4} = \frac{3}{4}

TPS: Thanks!!
Anonymous: but the root is alpha +beta and not alpha,beta
