SOLUTION

GIVEN

R = {(x,y): x + 2y = 10 } is a relation on N

TO DETERMINE

The range of R

EVALUATION

Here the given set is N, the set of natural numbers

Now the relation is

R = {(x,y): x + 2y = 10 }

When y = 1 then x = 8

∴ ( 8,1 ) ∈ R

When y = 2 then x = 6

∴ ( 6, 2 ) ∈ R

When y = 3 then x = 4

∴ ( 4, 3 ) ∈ R

When y = 4 then x = 2

∴ ( 2, 4 ) ∈ R

∴ R = { ( 8, 1) , ( 6,2), ( 4, 3), 2,4)}

Hence the required Range of R

= { 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 }
