Given : raj calculates the area of a square with a side of 1.2 cm instead of the area of a square with a side of 2.1 cm

To Find : difference between his answers

Solution:

Area with side  1.2 cm  = 1.2²  cm²

Area with side  2.1 cm  = 2.1²  cm²

difference between his answers  =  2.1²  - 1.2²

a² - b² = (a + b)(a - b)

= (2.1 + 1.2)(2.1 - 1.2)

= 3.3(0.9)

= 2.97  cm²

difference between his answers  = 2.97  cm²
