Given:

The distance travelled by Raj in North direction = 24 cm

The distance travelled by Raj in East direction = 32 cm

To find"

The minimum distance between the final and initial position of Raj.

Solution:

The minimum distance between the initial and final points of Raj can be found out by Pythagoras theorem, therefore the minimum distance will be:

 =  \sqrt{ {24}^{2} +  {32}^{2}  }

  =  \sqrt{576 + 1024}

 =  \sqrt{1600}

 = 40 \: cm

Therefore the minimum distance between the initial and final points of Raj is 40 cm, hence the correct option is 2.

Given : Raj went 24 m to the north and 32 m to the east from the same place on the ground,

To Find : the minimum distance between the two points

1️⃣ 56 m

2️⃣ 40 m

3️⃣ 36 m

4️⃣ 45 m

Solution:

            NORTH

WEST                 EAST

             SOUTH

North and west are perpendicular

Apply Pythagoras' theorem: square on the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two perpendicular sides.

Distance = √24² + 32²

= 8√3² + 4²

= 8√(9 + 16)

= 8√25

= 8(5)

= 40 m

distance between the two points  = 40 m
