Question :
If Raj went 24 m to the north and 32 m to the east from the same place on the ground, what would be the minimum distance between the two points ?*
Answer :
- Let A be Raj's starring point .
- let B be Raj's ending point .
- The path covered by Raj is passing through A , C and B that is distance of AC + CB
- But the minimum distance between the starting and ending point will be the seg AB .
We can find it through the Pythagoras theorem .
Here , triangle ∆ACB is formed ,
By Pythagoras theorem
hypo² = base² + opposite ²
➡️ AB² = AC² + BC²
➡️ AB² = 24² + 32²
➡️ AB² = 576 + 1024
➡️ AB² = 1600
➡️ AB = √1600
➡️ AB = 40
Therefore the minimum distance between the starting and ending point is 40 m .

Given : Raj went 24 m to the north and 32 m to the east from the same place on the ground,
To Find : the minimum distance between the two points
1️⃣ 56 m
2️⃣ 40 m
3️⃣ 36 m
4️⃣ 45 m
Solution:
NORTH
WEST EAST
SOUTH
North and west are perpendicular
Apply Pythagoras' theorem: square on the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two perpendicular sides.
Distance = √24² + 32²
= 8√3² + 4²
= 8√(9 + 16)
= 8√25
= 8(5)
= 40 m
distance between the two points = 40 m
