If Rajdhani Express starts from New Delhi station at 16:30 hours and reaches Mumbai Central Station at 8:30 hours next day, travelling a distance of 1380 km, then the average speed of the train = 86.25 km/hours (23.96 m/s)

Given:

i) Rajdhani Express starts from New Delhi station at 16:30 hours and reaches Mumbai Central Station at 8:30 hours next day

ii) Total distance travelled by Rajdhani Express = 1380 km

To find:

Average speed of this train

Solution:

The formula for average speed is given as

Average Speed = Total Distance travelled/Total Time taken

In order to calculate the average speed of the train, we need to know the values of total distance travelled by the train and the total time taken taken by it.

Total distance travelled by the train = 1380 km

We have to calculate the total time taken by the train

Total time taken by the train = (24 - 16.5) + 8.5

                                               = (7.5) + 8.5

                                               = 16 hours

Therefore,

Average Speed = Total Distance travelled/Total Time taken

                           = 1380 / 16

                           = 86.25 km/hours

                           = 86.25 * 5/18

                           = 23.96 m/s

Hence,

Average speed of train = 86.25 km/hours

                                       = 23.96 m/s
