Answer:

Raju is left with 9 hamburgers

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

No. of hamburgers Raju had = 36

Hamburgers he ate = 1/2 of 36

Hamburgers he's dog ate = 1/2 of 1/2 * 36 [ as remaining = 1/2 of 36 ]

To find:

Hamburgers left = ?

Solution :

Let's take 36 as 1 whole

so, 36 - 1/2 of 36 = 1 - 1/2 = 2-1/2 = 1/2

so the remaining hamburgers = 1/2 * 36

so, no. of hamburgers the dog ate = 1/2 * 1/2 [ considering 36 as whole ]

                                                          = 1/4 of 36

hence, total no. of hamburgers ate = 1/2 + 1/4 = 3/4

so, no. of hamburgers remaining = 1 - 3/4  = 1/4

hence total no. of hamburgers remaining = 1/4 * 36 = 9

there's one more easier method where you first calculate the no. of hamburgers ate by Raju[ 1/2 * 36 = 18] first and then by his dog[ 1/4 * 36 = 9 ]

then add them [ 18 + 9 = 27 ] and then subtract the sum from 36 [ 36 - 27 = 9]
