Answer:

Ram had 7 marbles

Sita had 5 marbles

Step-by-step explanation:

Let Ram = x marbles

Let Sita = y marbles

If Ram gives Sita one of the marbles from what he possesses then they will have equal no. of marbles

x-1 = y+1

x-y = 2 ................... (i)

If Sita gives one of the marbles from what she possesses to Ram then Ram will have double of what Sita is left with.

x+1 = 2(y-1)

x+1=2y-2

x-2y= -3 ................ (ii)

Solve (i) and (ii) simultaneously by elimination of x

x-y = 2

x-2y= -3

y = 5

x = 7

Ram had 7 marbles

Sita had 5 marbles

Let the number of marbles Ram and Sita have are x and y respectively.

According to first condition,

x-1 =  y + 1

x - y = 2  ......a

According to second condition,

2(x+1) = y-1

2x - y = 1 ........b

Solving we have ,

x = 7 and y = 5

Ram and Sita have are 7 and 5 respectively.
