Solution

Given :-

  • If ratio of denominator and numerator is 1:2
  • if 2 is decreased in numerator & 1 is increased in denominator then the ratio will be 2:1 .

Find :-

  • Required fraction

Explanation

Let,

  • Numerator be x
  • Denominator be y

Case 1.

==> x : y = 1 : 2

==> x/y = 1/2

==> 2x - y = 0______________(1)

Case 2.

==> (x - 2)/(y+ 1) = 2/1

==> x - 2 =2y + 2

==> x - 2y = 2 + 2

==> x - 2y = 4_____________(2)

Multiply by 2 in equ(1)

==> 4x - 2y = 0___________(3)

Subtract equ(2) & equ(3)

==> 4x - 2x = 4

==> 2x = 4

==>x = 4/2

==> x = 2

Keep in equ(2)

==> 2 - 2y = 4

==> -2y = 4 -2

==> -2y = 2

==> y = -2/2

==> y = -1

Then, fraction will be .

==> x/y = (-2)/(-1)

==> x/y = 2

Hence

  • Fraction will be = 2
