oh my dear friend

a neural center in the upper part of the p-o-n-s that provides inhibitory impulses on inspiration and thereby prevents o-v-e-r-d-i-s-t-e-n-s-i-o-n of the lungs and helps to maintain alternately recurrent inspiration and expiration.

and that is the reason why medulla is also called as p-n-e-u-m-o-t-o-x-i-c center .
