Concept

Below are some formulas related to the problem of aging that help you answer  questions quickly and  get  better ideas for the concept:

  • If  the current age is x,  the age after n years will be (x + n) years.
  • If  the current age is x,  the age  n years ago is (x-n) years.
  • If the age is given in the form of a ratio, for example: p: q, the age is considered  qx and px
  • Assuming the current age is x,  n times the current age is (x × n) years.
  • If  the current age is x, then 1 / n of  age is equal to (x / n) years

Given

We have given the age of roger which is 32 years and a statement that

he would be three times as old as he is now .

Find

We are asked to determine the present age of the Roger.

Soution

Let Roger's age be x.

After 32 years later Roger's age will be x+32 .

According to the statement which is Roger's age will be 3 times of the present age then the equation will be

32+x=3x\\32=2x\\x=16

Therefore, option (4) is the correct answer which is 16 years
