Answer:Amylase is the enzyme that catalyses the hydrolysis of starch into simple sugars. So if salivary amylase is lacking in saliva, the breakdown of starch is affected. Another phenomenon such as protein breakdown to amino acids by protease enzyme and fat breakdown by bile in the small intestine.

salivary amylase is the enzyme which helps in the breakdown of starch into simple sugars. therefore if there is no saliva in the salivary amylase, the starch will not be broken down into sugar
