If sand is bigger in size then why it can't hold or retain water in sandy soil and the Clay is very small then why clayey soil can do that . please give me answer with explanation

sand particles have more space between them but clayey soil have very tiny spaces between them so the water can flow easily through sand but not through clay

Answer:

sand particles are loosely packed and they have air gaps in them. Clay particles are tightly packed and they don't have any air spaces in them. As sand is lose they have gaps ,from those gaps water flows .

As clay is tight they don't have air gaps ,the water can't come .
