Given :-

sec²θ + tanθ = 13

To Find :-

The value of tanθ

Identity used

sec²θ = 1 + tan²θ

Solution :-

sec²θ + tanθ = 13

1 + tan²θ + tanθ = 13

tan²θ + tanθ - 12 = 0

tan²θ + 4tanθ - 3tanθ - 12 = 0

tanθ(tanθ + 4) - 3(tanθ + 4) = 0

(tanθ + 4)(tanθ - 3) = 0

tanθ = - 4 or tanθ = 3.
