So we have

−1=tan2A−sec2A=(tanA+secA)(tanA−secA)=x(tanA−secA)

or

tanA−secA=−1x

coupled with

tanA+secA=x

we can subtract the two beneficially to find

2secA=x+1x

which we can write as

2secA=x2+1x

and finally

secA=x2+12x
