Correct Question :-

If the selling price of an article is ₹ 900 and is given at a discount of 20% then find the marked price.

Given ,

SP = ₹ 900

Discount = 20%

To Find :-

The marked price of the article.

Solution :-

Let MP be ₹x

Discount\: in\: rupees\: =\: {\dfrac{20 \times x}{100}}

=\: {\dfrac{x}{5}}

SP = MP - Discount

=>\: 900\: =\: x\: -\: {\dfrac{x}{5}}

=>\: 900\: =\:{\dfrac{5x - x}{5}}

=>\: 900\: =\:{\dfrac{4x}{5}}

=>\:x\: =\: {\dfrac{900 \times 5}{4}}

=> x = 1125

Therefore, Marked price of the article is ₹1,125

Verification :-

Discount = MP - SP

= ₹(1125 - 900)

= ₹ 225

SP = MP - Discount

= ₹(1125 - 225)

= ₹900

Hence Verified.

Short-hands Used :-

CP = Cost Price

SP = Selling Price

MP = Marked Price

Disc = Discount
