Serum contains many growth factors and hormones which helps in cell growth and function.

Serum has advantages and disadvantages. Kindly go through the books for that.

If we remove serum, the media will able to provide sufficient nutrients for survival of

cells but cannot help in growth. So, If serum is removed from the growth medium of human embryonic kidney cell line (HEK), then the cells will undergo cell cycle arrest.
