we know that,

sin =perpendicular/hypotenuse

Now,

by using pythagores theorem,

H^2 = P^2 + B^2

12^2 = 3^2+ B^2

144= 9+ B^2

 \sqrt{144 - 9}  = b {}^{2}   \\  \sqrt{135  = b}

b =

 b = \sqrt{135}

so,

cosA = b/h

=

 \sqrt{135 }  \div 12
