in a right angled triangle,

sin X = opposite side÷hypotenuse

cos X = adjacent side÷hypotenuse

By using Pythogurus Theorem,

Opposite Side Square + Adjacent Side Square = Hypotenuse Square

If sin X = - a/b,

then b = hypotenuse

so, b Square= -a Square + c Square

therefore cos X = c/b it may be even-c/b.

And actually length is a side cannot be negative.

It's a positive quantity.

So once better you check the question whether it is positive or negative.
