sinx+cosx=a

Now, (sinx+cosx)2+(sinx−cosx)2=2

⇒a2+(sinx−cosx)2=2

⇒(sinx−cosx)2=2−a2

⇒sinx−cosx=±2−a2−−−−−√

Hence, |sinx−cosx|=2−a2−−−−−√
