sinx +cosx= √2
square both sides
1 + sin2x=2
sin2x=1
2x=π/2
x=π/4

we have to find
 \tan(x)  +  \cot(x)  \\ since \: x \:  = \pi \div 4 \\  \tan(\pi \div 4)  +  \cot(\pi \div 4)  \\  = 1 + 1 \\  = 2

UdayC: where is cosx after squaring

saurabhsemalti: (sinx+cosx)^2=(sin^2x+cos^2x)+2sinxcosx.....=1+2sinxcosx.....=1+sin2x
