if sodium and chlorine are poisonous in nature then why we use them as common salt???

Sodium chloride is always formed by the neutralization reaction of sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid. Water is formed in this reaction. So it is a neutral reaction. Sodium chloride formed is neutral. Hence, we use it as common salt in food items.
