Quicklime is a base. If it is added to acidic soil the soil neutralises and the pH is maintained.

Answer:

if  a soil is too acidic we add Cao (quick lime) to it which is a base to neutralize the soil and make its pH close to 7.By doing this we can grow plants on the soil as plants can't grow on acidic soil to make the soil neutral or of pH=7 we add quick lime to it.

hope it helps!
