Mercury is fairly toxic to humans even in small quantities. However Ingesting it orally, elemental mercury will pass through your system fairly quickly leaving by your stool, according to this article: Mercury Toxicity
Still Mercury poisoning is cumulative. So a one time event is not likely to be significant but repeated exposure in this manner is potentially risky. I would not do it.
