But for this you will have to chew them.We can identify different food items based on their taste.Some food items don't require chewing to know their taste like sugar or salt.

But in the case of aniseed it is basically tasteless until it is chewed.So when it is chewed its enzymes are released which the tongue can taste and thus we can tell it as aniseed.
