• One of them is $\tt \color{lightgreen} \frac{ - 3}{7}$

To find :

• The other number

Assumption :

• Let the other number be $\tt \color{lightgreen}x$

Solution :

According to the Question

Sum of two Rational numbers is$\tt \color{pink}\frac{2}{5}$

$\tt \large⇒x + \frac{ - 3}{7} = \frac{2}{5}$

Adding the numbers in LHS

• LCM of 7 is 7

$\tt \large \: ⇒ \frac{7 \times x + ( - 3)}{7} = \frac{2}{5}$

$\tt \large⇒\frac{7x - 3}{7} = \frac{2}{5}$

Cross multiplying

$\tt \large ⇒\: 5 \times (7x - 3) = 2 \times 7$

$\tt \large \: ⇒35x - 15 = 14$

Transposing -15 to RHS

$\tt \large \: ⇒35x = 14 + 15$

$\tt \large \: ⇒35x = 29$

Transposing 35 to RHS

$\tt \large \: ⇒x = \frac{29}{35}$

Henceforth,

The another Rational number is $\tt \large \color{teal} \frac{29}{35}$.
