x + y = 10 \\ x = 10 - y \:  \:  \:  \: ....(1)  \\ x - y = 4 \:  \:  \:  \: ...(2) \\ substitute \: eq.1 \: in \: eq.2 \\ (10 - y) - y = 4 \\ 10 - 2y = 4 \\ 10 - 2y - 4 = 0 \\  - 2y + 6 = 0 \\ 2y = 6 \\ y = 3 \\  \\ substitute \: value \: of \: y \: in \: eq.1 \\ x = 10 - y \\ x = 10 - 3 \\ x = 7 \\  \\

let two numbers be x, y

x+y=10......... (i)

x-y=4............ (ii)

adding these two equations

2x=14

x=7, which is greater number
