if tan (a+b) =x and tan b=1/2 prove that tan a= 2x-1/x+2, and obtaining an expression for tan (a-b) in terms of x. If tan (a-b) =1/3 and a is acute find A without using tables. [SC]

If 1 – tan θ tan 4θ ≠ 0, you can peacefully divide by this expression.

(tan θ + tan 4θ)/(1 – tan θ tan 4θ) = –tan 7θ

or, tan 5θ = – tan 7θ

⇒ 5θ = nπ – 7θ

⇒ θ = (nπ)/12, where n = 0, ±1, ±2 ………
