Consider,
(cosθ−sinθ)(cosθ+sinθ)
Divide both numerator and denominator by cosθ
i.e.,
cosθ(cosθ−sinθ)cosθ(cosθ+sinθ)=(1−tanθ)(1+tanθ)
=(1−ba)(1+ba)
=(b−a)(b+a)
